Sports Therapy

Laura McGregor has been practising as a Sports Therapist & Personal Trainer for 16 years, since graduating Worcester University with a BSc (hons) in sports science and then completing a diploma in Personal Training & Sports Therapy with Premier Training. After gaining valuable experience working with athletes and teams in Australia, Greece, Ireland and now England for 13 years, she has opened Pure Health, Fitness & Therapies and continues to run a busy practise in Odstock, just outside of Salisbury.

Sports Therapy is used to diagnose and treat injuries. It combines a range of techniques to get you back to fully functioning fitness as quickly as possible. Even though it is called Sport Therapy, this treatment is not just for athletes. Anyone can benefit, including people with physically demanding jobs or those where occupational, emotional and postural stress may produce similar characteristics to sports injuries. The main purpose of sports massage is to help alleviate stress and tension which builds up in the soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur due to over- exertion/use, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. Above all, it can help prevent those niggling injuries that get in the way of sporting performance or active daily life.

Your treatment will begin with a thorough assessment and diagnosis. Laura will then treat your injury carefully and create a personalised rehabilitation programme to return you back to full fitness and possibly make you stronger and more posturally balanced than before. Sports massage plays a big part in the process and tends to be deeper and more intense than regular massage, using a combination of techniques to create maximal results. Your treatment may consist of muscular manipulation, stretching, compressions, frictions, vibrations, trigger pointing and Ultrasound. After gaining valuable experience at the pitch side and in clinic, Laura is able to combine these techniques and give knowledge and advice during your session to bring optimum performance. Your body can move more freely and with less pain, it might just need a little encouragement.
